About the author:
If you’ve read many interviews with Broadway actors, particularly those starring in musicals, you’ve heard variations on this familiar theme: I sleep late; I rest my voice all day; I preserve my energy to make it through eight shows a week, etc. etc. And then there’s Susan Blackwell, the witty, tart-tongued star of [title of show]. Resting her voice? This talented performer spends her days at a desk, working in management 30 hours a week before hightailing it to the Lyceum Theatre to sing about the joys and insecurities of pursuing a theatrical career. Blackwell’s professional juggling act has been going on for several years now (including a stint last season in the hit off-Broadway play Speech & Debate), and the multi-tasking star even made time to write an essay for Broadway.com that needed no editing. (You go, girl!) How—and why—does she keep doing it all?
You know what Carl Jung said back in the day?
“The artist’s life cannot be otherwise than full of conflicts, for two forces are at war within him—on the one hand, the common longing for happiness, satisfaction and security in life, and on the other a ruthless passion for creation which may go so far as to override every personal desire. There are hardly any exceptions to the rule that a person must pay dearly for the divine gift of creative fire.”
Do you want to hone your song interpretation and audition skills? Better yet, do you want one of your favorite [tos] cast members to help you hone said skills?
Well, you’re in luck! On October 12, [tos]’s own Susan Blackwell will be teaching a one day intensive at Broadway Artists Alliance from 11am-1:30pm.
Broadway Artists Alliance is a not-for-profit theatrical training program for young artists ages 10-21. BAA provides technical training for these young artists in intensives and one day workshops that are taught by Broadway professionals (performers and directors) and they offer classes in areas such as: vocal technique and performance, sight singing and song interpretation, monologue work, scene study, as well as intensive work in ballet, tap, jazz and musical theatre dance.
There are a limited number of spaces for the intensive Susan will be instructing, so sign up now! Click here to find out more and sign up (scroll down and click on ‘one day master classes’)!!
Your SuperTossers mods would love to go, but alas we’re all too old…not to mention none of us are perfomers So get hopping and sign up so you can tell us all about it!
As we all know, RENT closed on Sunday and the [tos] cast was invited to their sparkly closing party down at Chelsea Piers. BroadwayWorld.com snapped this pic of the fearsome foursome (plus Michael & Larry!) upon their arrival at the party

First off, many thanks to [TOS]’s kick ass marketing peeps for sending this to us! It will be posted on the official [title of show] site soon, but they wanted SuperTossers to have it first! It’s pretty sweet, so check it out!
After several days of being ready to pull our hair out…we’ve finally fixed and launched our new media gallery!
[tos]tube functions almost exactly like YouTube…only it’s all [title of show] related videos! [tos]tube is also home to our audio gallery (interviews, song clips etc).
As of right now we do not have public upload activated due to security reasons, so if you have a favorite video you’d like us to add, please contact us and we’ll see that it’s added!
For now, click on the Multimedia tab above to visit [tos]tube and let us know what you think!
We know we JUST posted about this, but we’ve got an addition to make!
The elephant project has recently expanded to include the “Elephant Coloring Project”, and the [tos] cast rocked it out and not only posed with the Elephant but colored for the project too!
But what is the coloring project exactly?
The Elephant Coloring Project is pretty much exactly what it sounds like, David is having people from all across the world (Broadway Stars/TV Stars/Movie Stars ETC as WELL as regular ol’ people like you and me) print out and color an image of an elephant that is located at www.elephantproject.org and send it back into him. These drawings will be compiled into a book that chronicles the project from the very beginning until the book’s completion date.
Pretty cool, huh?
We’ve already displayed the [tos] gang with their elephants in another post, so just go back a post or two to see those! As we said before, these images are being used with special permission from David so we ask that they NOT be posted anywhere else. If you’d like to share them with friends either direct them to this site or to www.elephantproject.org
If you’d like to see the rest of the coloring pages from the [tos] gang (Benjamin, Courtney, Larry, Martha & Tom all participated too!) and the great “behind the scenes” pictures of the [tos]sers coloring, check out David’s facebook album here!
